A woman from Vancouver Washington who suffered from Bipolar 2 Disorder commissioned me to draw her. We sat for coffee and discussed the meaning and visual rendering she wished to achieved with this drawing of her. She explained that she really clings to the “ambivalence” of emotions from her manic episodes. She feels as if she’s internally engulfed with utter darkness, while being bordered and inundated with the surrounding pressures of light and positivity.
After completion and payment, the client requested I displayed the piece in one of my art shows, wanting to share her pain and promise with an audience who could pull something from it. The piece sold in the first hour of display at San Francisco’s SF MOMA Guest show in the summer of 2022.
