DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Jan Michalski Foundation is to foster literary creation and encourage the practice of reading through a range of initiatives and activities. These include mounting exhibitions and cultural events that have a connection with writing and literature, making a large multilingual library available to the public, awarding an annual prize in world literature, granting financial support, and hosting a writer-in-residence program.
Benefiting from the unique atmosphere of Montricher, at the foot of Swiss Jura mountains, the residence welcomes authors, translators and other creators, both beginners and well-known, for different length visits, bringing together a favorable intellectual and natural environment and the financial support necessary for their creative process. Residences are available for all types of writers from all over the world engaged in literary creation. While they give priority to writers and translators, they are also open to any other discipline as long as writing is at the heart of the project. In 2019, a percentage of the residences will be dedicated to nature writing, a form of fiction or creative non-fiction that raises awareness of nature, prepares for a sustainable way of living, and helps to better understand socio-environmental interconnections and the impact of human actions on nature. Stays in the Jan Michalski Foundation can be granted for individual projects or projects in pairs.
