DESCRIPTION

 

Since 1993 Fire Station has provided subsidised residential studios that provide self-contained, secure living and working spaces for professional visual artists in Dublin city centre. The studios are let for a period of between 1 year and 2 years 9 months. Fire Station aims to build links and foster collaborations between Irish artists, curators, art institutions and their artistic peers internationally.  International artists with a demonstrable connection to Ireland are welcome to apply and shorter-term residencies might be considered.

The advantage for an international artist visiting Dublin and Fire Station Artists’ Studios is easy access to a dynamic and growing visual art scene within a city that is compact and easy to access by foot. Fire Station has an established reputation spanning 20 years of work which will ensure easy access to both public and private art institutions, directors, curators, and artists at all levels.  Dublin city centre location is within walking distance of all major galleries both public and private and artists’ studios which are located close to Dublin city centre. In addition Fire Station is located close to national rail and bus transport lines with easy access to the cities of Cork, Galway, Limerick and Belfast which all have distinct and vibrant art scenes.

Please note that the program is accessible for artists with partners/families (however not specifically designed for it), artists working in collaboration, artists with disabilities. Residencies are self-directed. More details in the FAQs.

 

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

 

Accommodation Information

Each studio has its own bathroom, kitchen, storage, bedroom area and working space.

Studio Information

The studios are combined live and work spaces. Rental includes utilities, waste disposal, parking, internet access.

Technical Information

Residents have full use digital media area and computers and access at subsidised cost to digital equipment including digital still cameras, digital camcorders and mini disc recorder tripods and more, as well as use of the Sculpture Workshop and equipment, availability allowing.

From the FAQs: “At FSAS all resident artists have access to the Resource Centre and equipment (at a subsidised rental cost) and Meeting Room. Artists may also book the use of workshop space in the Sculpture Workshop (subject to availability) at a cost of €50 per week.”

Dublin’s north inner city. In a five minute walking distance of one of the city’s main railway stations, tram station, central bus station, and the major museums, galleries and amenities of the city.
