Hilmsen is a small hamlet located 10 miles outside of the medieval town of Salzwedel in the former territory of the German Democratic Republic (population 25,000). Salzwedel is centrally located between Hamburg and Berlin. Culturally rich with a charming aesthetic, modern amenities, and a fascinating history. Salzwedel is a place of interest for many travelers along the historical “Romanesque Road” and the Transromanica network that links Romanesque Architecture, village churches, monasteries, cathedrals and castles built between 950 and 1250.
