At the Kunsthaus residency, Zeynep Kaynar has been exploring the role of Swedish-speaking minorities in shaping contemporary culture and art in Helsinki. Through interviews with cultural figures, artists, and craftsmen from this minority group, Zeynep has been absorbing insights that now inform her latest painting.

The SAPP series features a diverse collection of works that explore the intersections of language, identity, and urban environments. The pieces include a variety of media—paintings, drawings, and installations. The paintings and drawings employ abstract forms and layered compositions that symbolize the richness of linguistic and cultural identities.

Zeynep Kaynar
Finland
Zeynep Kaynar (b.1992, Turkey) produces art in semi-abstract visual language by adapting typographic design methods as observational tools in her fine art studio practice. She is an independent visual artist living and working in Finland. Kaynar has a list of selected exhibitions including in Finland, Turkey and, Germany as well as previous group exhibitions in Italy, Belgium and Denmark. Kaynar has been the recipient of several grants and subsidies, including the Alli ja Allan Salon Erillisrahasto from the Tampereen Taiteilijaseura ry in 2021 and the Die Künstlerin Stipendiatin der Landeshauptstadt NRW, Gast aus Tampere in Düsseldorf in Summer 2024. Kaynar is a member of various organizations, including Globe Art Point Ry, Tampereen Taiteilijaseura Ry, and Kultuuriosuuskunta TIcAS, and serves as a Community Manager for the TIcAS Cultural Space, sponsored by Tampereen Kaupunki.
