solo exibition – "Politically rekt" 2024
The exhibition focuses on the concept of political correctness, a concept whose overuse ultimately leads to the silencing of expression and is often manipulated as misdirection. Moreover, the title, which is a pun, sums up the political inertia and widespread complacency of citizens.
The exhibition will present a large part of the artist's research from the last four years. His research focuses on the how the recent pandemic and lockdown have introduced society into a new digital age, but also how society is being manipulated in a post-pandemic era without fully realizing the significance of these processes.
The exhibition presents the final results of the practice-based doctoral thesis of Vasilis Alexandrou, conducted at the Ionian University, Department of Audio and Visual Arts, entitled “Political Art in the Digital Age”. The research project was supported by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) in the framework of the “3rd Call for PhD Candidates”.

Born 1990 in Thessaloniki Greece. Graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2014. In 2019 he completed a Master on Interactive Installation and New Media in art, at the School of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University. Since March 2020 he has been a PhD candidate at the School of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University pursuing a practice-based PhD research titled "Political Art in Digital Age" for which he has been awarded a scholarship by H.F.R.I., Hellenic Foundation for Research & Innovation.
Vasilis has created two permanent works for public space and he has displayed his work in eight solo exhibitions and in more than 80 group shows. He represented Greece in Mediterranea 18 Young Artists Biennale in 2017, of the BJCEM International Network. In 2020, he was awarded by ARTWORKS at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program. At the academic level, he has taught courses, seminars and workshops at Universities of the country
