Tilmann Meyer-Faje’s sculptures are the result of automated production procedure which are which are carried out to the point of imminent collapse. Prefabricated elements are stacked as far as the design allows. The approaching collapse is just avoided by the fact that the clay dries. The artist sculptures showing the failure of industrial mass production.
With the title “Der Ofen ist aus” (the oven is turned of) he choosed a prominent synomyme as it is used in German media when a factory closes down. The bankruptcy of large industries has been affecting Germany for some time. With the change in East Germany and the Ruhr area, some prominent, powerful industrial monuments and some romantic landscape parks were created.
We live in an order dominated by mass industry. More of this factories might close in future.
The skeleton of this industry will remain as our living space. The question will be to what extent we can fill this given space with new individual concepts.

Tilmann Meyer Faje (1971) graduated in 2000 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Sandberg Institute in 2004 in Amsterdam. In his work he focuses the failure of industrial processes. He replicates contemporary constructions from our highly developed civilization and anticipates their decay. His objects are results of industrial mass production, like ships, concrete house blocks ore manufactory buildings that appears abandoned. At the Europea Ceramic Work centre EKWC in the Netherlands he build two fleets of big ceramic boats. Recently he build in Le Maupas AIR in France he mada a huge Arena and a blast furnace.
