時器TOKI-Vessels for Eternity 2021
Slip Casting, Mixed Media
Slurry of SHIGARAKI translucent clay
Leaves, Cicadas, Cicada shells, Flowers, Honeycomb, Bagworm shells, and etc. LED lights
I am trying approach to contemporary art from ceramic art. We as a potter, make vessels. I am making vessels for invisible or things without shapes and volume. For example, vessels for sounds, vessel for light or rays. TOKI series are vessels for eternity.
I am burning leaves, flowers, insects, and etc. with SHIGARAKI translucent clay. Some of them burn out during firing, some of them become ash and become glazes. I think the photographs are fixing time in two dimensions, these works are fixing time in three dimensions.
I am making eternal things from ephemeral things by casting to translucent clay. Ceramic does not decay. Ceramics can keep these shape and color for almost eternal.
