From the Collection: Some Rocks 2018
The collection consists of rocks that came to me without looking for them by getting stuck in my shoes. Bit by bit, the collection is now hosted in the shoes of different people. The collection is constantly changing as new rocks appear or get lost again.
The work discusses the borders of a sculptural approach as well as the concept of art collections, their storage and attributions of value. It proposes a fluid motion that questions ownership and property.
“You are receiving a special strenght from the apu. The stones are in our hands, but what we are having a communion with is not the stones but the force that comes through them from the apu. Do not doubt, do not hesitate. If it chooses you, it is coming with you! The stones will give you immense power and strength for your path and for your life. And remember you must kiss the ground three times, putting your fingers to your lips and then to the ground three times for each stone.“

Stefan Klein

Kasper König once said that my work is like the dancing procession of Esternach in Luxembourg: two steps forward, one step back. Still not sure if this was a compliment or an insult, but I kind of like it.
Biography
Stefan Klein received a Master in Fine Arts from the Public Arts and New Artistic Strategies Program at the Bauhaus University in Weimar.
He has exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions internationally, amongst others Art Center Ongoing, Tokio (2023), Bauhaus Museum (2019), Frieze Art Fair (2018), Galerie Daniel Marzona (2017), Berlin Biennale (2016), Berliner Herbstsalon (2015/17).
In addition he had been a fellow in diverse art residencies, e.g. KW – Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin, Fondazione Antonio Ratti CSAV, Como (ITA), ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanism, Berlin, Fellowship at Ständige Vertretung, (2018 ) Nomad (Thinking) Residency / Artists-In-Distance, Festival Belluard Bollwerk (2017), PACT, PACT-Zollverein, Essen (2016).
