The latent inheritance 2023
Asbestos, concealment and fight.
“The latent inheritance” is born from the need to communicate and raise awareness about a silent and silenced reality that surrounds us: asbestos, a problem of the past, present and future. With this work Silvia Isach aims to provide knowledge about the dark history of this whitish mineral and the effects that inhalation of its fibers has on the physical and emotional health of the population.
Asbestos was used massively all over the world, especially in the post-World War II economic expansion, misinforming and failing to comply with specific regulations to protect the health of workers exposed to this material. In Spain its use and commercialization was banned in 2002. However, the effects of inhaling asbestos fibers have a latency period up to 40 years.

Silvia Isach
Spain
Visual artist and photographer with a degree in Fine Arts specialising in Image from the University of Barcelona in 2008 and a Postgraduate degree in Documentary Photography from the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya.
Her work is based on her own experiences and reflections of a social nature, addressing the intrinsic with a constant presence of symbolism and from a humanistic and historical perspective in favour of social justice.
She has exhibited at festivals in different European countries, both in collective and individual exhibitions. In recognition of her work, in 2023 she was awarded the Gold LUX in documentary reporting at the Photography LUX Awards in Spain and the 3rd prize at the Schlosslichtspiele in Karlsruhe (Germany). In 2017 she was the winner of the Lumen Sitges Festival award (Spain); in 2015 she won the 2nd prize at the Berlin Festival of Lights (Germany); In 2012, he won 1st prize at the Battle VJ La Novela in Toulouse (France); among other nominations
