Light Sculpture 2019
Using a newly developed technique, these wabi-sabi sculptures are the result of the loosening of the inner bark (phloem) from its trunk.
Combining sustained water and heat-exposure (at 110 °C) on a sliced birch allows an interesting phenomenon: the natural releasing of the inner bark (pholem) from the heart wood. The delicate and minimalistic result evokes emptiness, the heart of the tree made absent.

Birch Bark Tapestry 2019
My large-scale sustainable wall-hangings celebrate the design qualities of the Betula Papyrifera (paper birch). This species of birch, only to be found in North America, have many layers of skin peeling off in a wide range of shades. With the lenticel’s stripe-patterns enhancing the interwoven aspect, the thinness of paper and softness of fabric, makes it the perfect medium for revisited textile art.

After studying theoretical and applied arts at Stockholm University, La Sorbonne in Paris as well as at UNAM in Mexico City, Sarita develops an approach centered on the aesthetic manifestations of nature by moving in 2018 to a studio designed by Gert Wingårdh located nearby the lake Långhalsen in Sörmland. Birch in all its uniqueness and versatility gradually becomes the starting point of any project, both sculptural and two-dimensional. She exhibits her works in Europe and North America.
