Responds to the phrase “Always Surprising: Unmistakably Brighton and Hove”.
My Notes:
• Taking the brief literally and using typography, I have created an engaging, friendly, open-minded, diverse art wall to tell the story of Brighton & Hove, our beloved city. Just a little fun – in this gloomy time – to cheer people up. The items simply represent icons around the city but evoke the feeling of cheerfulness and love.
• It would be nice to include some cut-outs so people can take selfies, (if it is possible to get behind the image). If you like this idea, we would need to reposition the couple for example, or add more characters.
• The artwork is a vector file that can be produced onto a hoarding board.
• For sustainability reasons, this hoarding board can be re-used at any convention or on the pier as it has no time-relevant information on it.
‘Flood – tidied’ 2024
My uncle painted some beautiful chairs for my sister's new flat. One day, her radiators started leaking and caused a flood. She was really worried. The next day, she called me to share the whole story. She talked about the chairs with their lovely patterns and how afraid she was that the water might ruin them and make the patterns disappear. She said everything was a mess.
I decided to draw the mess she described, but in my drawing, I cleaned up the flood for her. When she saw it, she felt relieved.
