A wall hanging design inspired by Medieval Marginalia. All the character draw inspiration from mythical creatures and designs.
This wall hanging was woven using Jacquard looms in Atlanta Georgia.
The Bird of Self Knowledge 2023
Inspired by my visit to the Volkunde Museum in Vienna this is my first foray in 3D design and toys. ‘Vogel Selbsterkenntnis’, The Bird of Self Knowledge was a popular motif in the Age of Enlightenment and is from from the German proverb “nimm dich selbst bei der Nase”` (take yourself by the nose)

Rob Flowers is an illustrator with a distinctively bold style defined by crayon-bright palettes, playful forms and eccentric characters. Stationed in his “Flowers Towers” studio, Rob is a keen collector of kitsch ephemera and historical miscellany, counting 80s gross-out toys, 70s cartoons and early McDonald’s advertising memorabilia amongst his treasury. With a leaning towards the humorously grotesque, his work draws on his fondness for mythology, combining whimsical imagery with symbolism and folkloric elements.
His work has been described as ‘trippy…. as if you took a whole load of acid, ate too much candyfloss and went on the waltzers at your town’s local fair. It’s all a bit much, borderline grotesque, but you had a brilliant time.” Rob’s toy collection has been featured in numerous publications including Creative Review, Design Week and It’s Nice That.
Rob is from East London and now lives on the South East Coast of the UK
