The netherworlds -1 2016

During the summer months of 2015, Southern California was experiencing one of the most expansive El Nino seasons on record . It had unseasonably clear water visibility and warm waters reaching into the high 70s, the Catalina coast (an island off of southern California ) became the most interesting underwater photo studio north of the Hawaiian islands. With the help of an eco friendly dye, a handful of wild souls and some surreal conditions catered by mother nature, a beautiful visual energy came to life with each shutter giving a grander meaning to the world beneath.
Two years in the making, dozens of wet boat rides, countless sun burns, endless freediving and thousands of images later, we have arrived.
Please enjoy the netherworlds.

Ricky Lesser was raised in the waters off Southern California. Taught to scuba dive at the age of 12 he was enthralled by the oceans and what lay beneath from an early age. Throughout his 20’s he devoted his time and passion to surf and underwater photography, traveling to every corner of the planet. Without a doubt his favorite subject matter was water with a minor in humans, portraiture was a close second. He currently lives in Hermosa Beach a few blocks from the ocean.
