Red Dirt Study, No. 3 2021
I have recently found myself drawn to the sanguine hues of what is known in the southeastern United States as, simply, "Red Dirt".
To many, it is nothing but an annoyance, sticking to shoes and vehicles, and staining clothes in a way that no soil should be able to. However, for all of its inherent drawbacks, it is a soil that has always been a sign to me that I am home.
This is very much a new project, developing as I move along, but one that I have already deeply invested time and thought into. I intend to represent the allure of this iron-rich soil and illustrate how this ruddy earth helps define and enrich the larger landscape of the south.
This is but one image within a developing project.
