Cyanometer 2016
The Cyanometer by Martin Bricelj Baraga is a monument to the blueness of the sky. It is inspired by the original cyanometer invented by the Swiss physicist and Alpine explorer Horace-Bénédict de Saussure. His cyanometer – a blue color wheel, forms the core of the monument, gently directing our gaze back to the sky.
The Cyanometer is both a monument and an open source software that periodically collects images of the sky. The software uploads images of the sky to the website, where it identifies the adequate shade of blue on de Saussure's color wheel. Together with air quality data of Ljubljana, Wroclaw, Dresden and Geneva, the Cyanometer website is creating a special kind of online archive and retrospective calendar that is measuring and documenting the blueness of the sky.
In a cloud based world, the only clouds that really matter are the ones we see in the sky.
Drop 2022
Drop is a new audiovisual installation by intermedia artists Martin Bricelj Baraga & Fraction (Eric Raynaud), exploring the natural phenomenon of melting glaciers. The melting of ice and global warming as sea levels rise is the central theme of the digital visualization and sonification of data, reminiscent of dripping water. In the audiovisual installation, each additional drop represents a 0.1 mm rise in sea level, so that the composition eventually progresses over time, reaching a peak of 74 drops (corresponding to a 7.38 mm rise in sea level).
The number of drops in the digital environment follows the evolution of the dataset based on satellite observations, where a new virtual drop is added to the simulation (with its own sound frequency) each time the amount of ice melt contributes to a 0.1 mm rise in ocean level, proportional to the average over the period 1980-1990. The result is a representation of ice melt over the period presented (1992-2017).

His works explore the relations between spaces, environment, nature, technology and people. His installations and interventions are often set in unusual urban contexts or natural environments.
His public space artworks are part of permanent or temporary collections of cities Ljubljana, Geneva, Wroclaw & Saint Petersburg.
He created many interactive works based on the creation of entirely new situations in public space, which for him is a concept that he himself understands very broadly and includes both actual spaces in cities or nature as well as virtual worlds. His procedural works are firmly anchored in space and expose time as one of the key elements. The materialization of work is often merely a trigger that establishes a project which is later developed in interaction with its users. His international presence is overwhelming, full of referential presentations.
