BLOOP 2020
For this series I found inspiration in 1950s American sci-fi cinema. I try to transfer the reality of this place, where hundreds of people go to in order to have ‘therapeutic’ mud baths, to a sci-fi stage. I emphasise the absurd in human behaviour and in this case, specifically in the environmental pollution of the Mar Menor, an area that is close to collapsing due to pressures of overdevelopment and agricultural waste.
Aside from two, all the photos in the series are taken from real life. And in order to do this, I spent hours among my subjects, taking mud baths and blending in so I could move freely without interfering with their attitudes.
From all the photos, the two I have prepared were done as an allusion to the 1951 film ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’. The film’s theremin soundtrack was always with me while working on them… and somehow, made me think that it would be good if a superior being from outer space came to give us an ultimatum for us to stop destroying our environme

Biography, María Moldes.
Photographer and filmmaker, her photographic work has been widely distributed in the European and North American artistic circuit through social networks and its media impact (The Guardian, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, El País, Daily Mail, El Mundo, CNN Photos , Courrier International, ABC…) in 2014 one of his photos will appear in the world's first Instagram photobook.
He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain, and the USA. Highlights his latest exhibition at the Boca del Calvari Museum , where his work “Scenes of radioactive life” was exhibited along with the work of Martin Parr and Cristina de Middel.
In 2019 he made his first short film, obtaining two nominations and the award for best Artistic Direction at NOTODOFILMFEST. In 2020 she was awarded the LENS DE CINE SCHOLARSHIP, with which she will study the Master of Documentary Film.
