Free Fall 2018
Styrofoam and paint sculpture enclosing two video screens visible through peep-holes. Each screen projects an animated video loop of a skeleton falling in the dark.
With this sculpture I wanted to create a piece which confronted two different types of spaces. An internal space which seems expansive and intangible and an external space that is very concrete and limited. To me this sculpture is also a sort of Memento Mori. I intended to make a piece that talks about death directly, yet with lightness and humor.

Marcos Sanchez
Chile
Marcos Sánchez (1980), visual artist and animator, works in various techniques that include drawing, painting, sculpture, animation and hybrids of these. He has exhibited his work in Chile and abroad, in places such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago and the Long Story Short Gallery in New York. His work is found in private and public collections both in Chile and abroad. In 2019, he directed an animated video for the band The Breeders and has collaborated with various musicians. His animation works have been awarded at film festivals such as South by Southwest 2022 in Texas, USA and the Japan Media Arts Festival 2021 in Tokyo.
