Tentacles in Sicily- scratching the surface 2019
Kg Augenstern have been exploring the world for years with their ‚tentacles‘, extendable pieces of fiberglass that allow them to touch and extract the sounds of the places they have travel through. Their longest intervention was a boat trip from Berlin to Arles, scratching the bottom of each bridge they passed and recording the sounds.
In automn 2019 the artists explored places in Sicily that have been abandoned within the last decades. With their flexible, extendable Tentacles, they scratched circles on the surface of those contemporary ruins to reveal the specific sounds of the various material and the surrounding. The research was accompanied by experiments with raw sheep wool and clay as materials corresponding to the ephemeral appearance and transitory atmosphere of the places. The outcome of the research was was presented as a sitespecific installation in an old prayer hall in Palermo in the frame of BAM Biennale Palermo in cooperation with Goethe Institut and Institut Francais.
Circle 2020
In Automn 2019 the Berlin based artist group Kg Augenstern (Christiane Prehn and Wolfgang Meyer) explored several places in Sicily that have been abandoned within the last decades. With their flexible, extendable Tentacles (carbon fiber canes), they scratched circles on the surface of these contemporary ruins to reveal the specific sounds of the suface and the surrounding. A camera installed in the center of the circles recorded the images and the sounds. The research was accompanied by experiments with raw sheep wool and clay as materials corresponding to the ephemeral appearance and transitory atmosphere of the places. The outcome of the research was presented as an exhibition in a old prayer hall in Palermo in the frame of BAM Biennale and Transeuropa Festival. The music is an old tibetan poem about the Bardo, the transitory state inbetween life and death.

Tentacles 3 2017
audiokinetic Installation, tentacles, electric motors, Glasses, red wine, wooden structure, video
The three-room installation Tentacles 3 is a fragile, delicate and poetic transformation of the Tentacles concept. The first part consists of five wine-filled glasses slowly moving on the top of Tentacles, clinging, crashing, dancing. The second part shows a machine making the Tentacles scratch the walls. Additionaly the video „Mauer“ from 2006 is screened. It shows shattering wine glasses lined up on the top of a wall.
