Mother's Milk 2023

In October, I performed Mother’s Milk in New York City as part of Art in Odd Places: DRESS, curated by Gretchen Vitamvas. I learned a lot from 2 performances. I wore the dress I constructed, the jewelry made of my breastmilk and wore my late mothers wig. I poured my breastmilk and froze it into various molds of domestic items such as plates, cups, bowls etc. I wandered, coiffed, emotionless. Carrying/balancing. Dropping/reconfiguring the melting, milky plates and objects while doing my best, and failing, to clean up the mess. The work was most successful when I balanced more than three objects and when things fell and broke. After performing this work, I feel it could be pushed in several ways.

Kasie Campbell is an award-winning visual artist working on Treaty 6 Territory(Edmonton, AB Canada). In 2015, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture at the University of Alberta.
Campbell’s work integrates a variety of media including sculpture, photography, and installation with performative means.Themes of the abject and simultaneous tensions around beauty and the grotesque surrounding her own body/motherhood/ experiences have been major points of interest in her work.
Notably, Campbell has exhibited her work throughout Canada and internationally at Grounds for Sculpture (south of NYC), Mana Contemporary in Hamilton, NJ, Mana Contemporary in Chicago, IL, New York City at the Westbeth Gallery, Manhattan NYC for Art in Odd Places, Viljandi, Estonia and throughout Canada. She has had sculpture in the Borden Park Rotational sculpture exhibition and has participated in many temporary public art installations and performance art festivals.
