Human Archive 2024

"Human Archive" is an innovative audiovisual installation that explores the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) language, hypothesizing that AI possesses its unique language distinct from any existing national language. The artist uses various language data to train the sound AI, creating an entirely novel auditory experience. These sounds, different from any human language's pronunciation, are imbued with the unique tonalities of machines, resulting in an unprecedented listening experience.
This hypothesis challenges traditional human notions of language and communication, proposing new aesthetic and philosophical considerations. In part of the installation, viewers can observe the process of AI receiving prompts and engaging in continuous calculations. The screen displays AI's processing after receiving input, showcasing the complex algorithms and data processing that generate the final output. This process reveals the underlying mechanisms of AI language generation.

Through Dawn 2024

The artwork delves into Walter Benjamin’s theory on the disappearance of the “Aura” in artworks of the technological era. Placing artificial intelligence at the core of creation, we expand the boundaries of traditional art, achieving a reinterpretation and re-creation of the art’s aura in the modern technological age. “Through Dawn” is a pivotal piece in this series; Components from the artist’s past works, such as particle effects, fluid dynamics, and three-dimensional scene construction, based on deep model training and generation technology, establish a creative process that blends art with artificial intelligence. This work utilizes an advanced AI model named “Jiayu∗” which is trained on digital imagery from the artist’s previous works. It transforms these images into sequence frames to teach the AI to understand the artist’s unique visual language and build its worldview.
This AI model has been uploaded to a web platform, allowing the public to download and explore.

Known for her immersive and evocative media installations, Jiayu Liu is a media artist based in Beijing. She holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, dedicated to the creative practice and research of media art.

Jiayu's artwork often recreates and augments the natural world and focuses on relationships between humans, nature, and the lived environment, exploring human behavior and response. Under the constantly updated technology, using different media, material, and digital technologies, her installations become immersive portals through which one can be transported between the superimposition of real and virtual, physical and digital, and material and immaterial worlds. Her installations enable new communication nodes with audiences using live and static streams of data and digital technologies. The audience's behavioral response and emotional resonance are aroused through spatial collage and displacement, making her creation repeatedly "re-created" by audiences.
