Patience 2019

My installation is inspired by my grandmother with whom I grew up. Witnessing her grief for her son at a young age, knitting was as a meditative performance for her. She gives these washcloths to everyone to spread loving and sharing. The main idea is being patient for living and loving despite all the misfortunate memories. The installation is also companied by my video of my grandmother's one day routine and the way she produced the washcloths. My Installation aims to grant her patience in life to the viewer and make them live a day of her life.

Golden Roses 2019

As an artist, Ilke often refers to mythology in her works. Her character and tendencies in life are also similar to Aphrodite, she has her own sense of beauty, a sense of decorum she has created. Thus, her artistic concepts are inspired by the notion of
selfperception, decorum, love and femininity. In her works, the most repeated theme and textures are rose flower, lace pattern and gold leaf. The main reference being Greek mythology, the rose is associated with Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty who was often depicted adorned with roses around her body. Gold leaf symbolizes glamour and shine, which is the key element of her own sense of decorum.
