I SEE YOU, SEEING ME, SEEING YOU. 2019

Camouflage is about blurring the "edges" between the object (subject) and the background (context). It' an un avoidble survival mechanism, used to protect or attack and practiced in all levels of life. In cultural camouflage one has to identify these "sharp edges" (which are not accepted as normal),and obscure them by adapting characteristics of the environment. It can be a conscious or unconscious process.
My aim is to show it's possible to camouflage without changing who you are. The result is two things merged into one. Subject and Context are now one object.

This work depicts a large eye in shades of red with a reflection of what seems to be a human. who is looking at who? whois the potential victim and who is the attacker? is it the eye of someone who is hiding?

My aim is to show it's possible to camouflage without changing who you are. BY "TRANSFERRING CHARACTERISTICS" instead of adapting. The result is two things merged into one. Subject and Context are now one object.
This work depicts 2-3 portraits in shades of blue with dramatic lower light. Their sizes veriey yet it's hard to tell where one person ends and the next one begins?.

This work depicts a yellowtail butterfly that has situated itself on a yellow sunflower. Two fragile things united can look as aggressive as fire and roar like a lion.

Greetings, I’m Hannah Berestizhevsky, a.k.a Mofuta. The name emerged in 2009, during the final project of the BFA degree, completed that year in ILIS, Illinois USA. Mofuta means Variety- in a language spoken in s.africa – Sesotho. I’ve been attracted to visual expression since I can remember (although memory can’t be trusted). In 2018 I completed the MFA degree at the University of Barcelona, Spain. The studies focused on the investigation and production of contemporary art, or in other words, understand and justify why I do what I do. Currently, I’m located in Barcelona. I Was born in 1988, Ukrain, 1989 Immigrated to Israel. When I moved to Barcelona in 2016 I’ve opened my studio “MOFUTA studio gallery” which also transforms into also an exhibition space where 13 shows were made thus far. painting is the foundational medium for my creative process; its theoretical and practical characteristics influence my use of other mediums. Every painting is a result of a performance.
