this series of works aims to evoke deeply embedded natural memories and perceptions within the body. Through the principles of "deriving images from observation" and "deriving meaning from images," the works seek to reveal personal inner truths. This process of quiet internalization and recreation does not strive for empirical accuracy or spatial realism but rather expresses a mysterious longing for an inner artistic realm—an individualized conceptual nature shaped by contemporary consciousness.

In the creative process, the resulting three-dimensional masses appear ambiguous, cryptic, and unclassified—fragments of hieroglyphic symbols that resemble natural forms yet resist definitive meaning. On another level, these abstract perceptions are akin to dismantled hieroglyphic roots, reduced to pure linear elements, forming a system of indistinct, nature-simulating symbols. Through the reassembly of scattered, fragmented forms, the process reawakens the body's innate capacity for reading. The outcome manifests as blocks resembling earth and stone while simultaneously embodying both hieroglyphic roots and natural objects. These minimalism, pure forms do not represent complete or directly recognizable entities; instead, they return to individualized conceptual natural forms, unique to each observer. This reciprocal process encourages reflection on the body's inherent ability to perceive and interpret visual imagery.

Fang Yi Chu

Chu, Fang Yi is a member of the UNESCO-International Academy of Ceramics (IAC), also a professor of Tainan National University of the Art in Taiwan.
In 2008, I won the first prize of the Taiwan Ceramic Biennial. In the same year, was also selected as the International Ceramics Triennial Mino, Japan Executive Committee. 2011, won the special award of the World Ceramics Biennial in Korea. In 2019, I received a higher honor-shortlisted of the final on-site selection for the Korea World Ceramics Biennial.
In creation, I focus on the object memory and image of human beings in the form of stereoscopic device of object sculpture through the observation of his own life, historical background and the cultural cognition. And also the image difference between the real object and imitated object, and the human body instinct to read the images… and other related topics.
