What are the political, ethical, social and aesthetic limits of the body?
Contemporary culture has shifted the focus of body hybridization from high-tech laboratories to popular
culture. Science fiction, horror literature and cinema contribute to developing this theme, underlining their power
in recording and representing the changes in our lives.
The consolidated success of the horror and science fiction genres is a symptom of a new phenomenon that prefers the deviant, or the mutant, to the more conventional versions of
the human being. Precisely for this reason they provide us with cultural representations appropriate to these
changes and transformations.
Dreaming of a Synthetic Body is the attempt to penetrate the putrefied imagination, in which the beauty of the anomalous body goes towards a representation of the subject in the unity of the body-machine.

Clarissa Falco
Italy
Clarissa Falco (Genoa, 1995) works as a visual and performance artist on themes related to the body, reflecting on its condition in a constant dialogue with mechanica elements. Her works express the idea of the body conceived as a machine. The distinction between subject and object becomes evident: the subject is deprived of its appearance to become part of a machine itself. In the performative activity, the machine-body binarism is expressed through the automatic and repetitive gesture, trapped in a temporal loop that is always the same.
Falco holds a Master in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies from NABA (2020).
