Lights 2020

Through his work, Charles explores the relational dynamic between sound and the possible objects or concepts that tether it to the tangible. His artistic career consists of a multitude of audiovisual productions and installations, which has given him the agency to invest his interest in crafting immersive sensory experiences that bring the viewer’s perception to the forefront. He is dually influenced by visual art and music but his interestes extend to experimental cinema, digital-audio installation and photography. In his art-making he investigates novel methods of bringing awareness to our environment and the bodies that pass through it. His key motive in developing his practice is to understand the situated self and the possible actions that follow.

Abat-Jour 2020

Constructed with recycled materials and technological
initiatives, “Abat-jour” encourages the spectator to re-assess their lived-in environment through prompting the viewer’s sense in unexpected modes. The simultaneous interplay of light, shadow and sound sets out to bring attention to the embodiment of the viewer and those around them as they interact with the work. The motive of “Abat-jour” is activated by the audience-object exchange and relies of the reversibility of perception. By drawing attention to the spectator’s senses, “Abat-jour” brings self-acknowledgement to the viewer in order for their acknowledged involvement with the lived-in-world.
