Rebirth 2019

Mixed media mosaic composed of marble, bone, glass, driftwood and stone. 36w x 20h 1d”. Rebirth was conceived when my son and I discovered whale bones while kayaking off Great Island in Wellfleet harbor. Repurposing materials has been a strong component in all of my work, I incorporate found materials such as beach glass, driftwood, stone and ceramic into my mosaic sculptures. Rebirth celebrates a new found life and continuing legacy from a past life. What is lost is found again, to everything there is a season, it is always darkest before the dawn.

Boundaries 2022

Mixed media wall sculpture diptych. 1 mm glass roads, resin on ceramic. 17h x 7w x 3d”. Boundaries was inspired by a metaphor used by Freud and Arthur Schopenhauer. The Porcupine Dilemma describes a situation in which a group of porcupines try to move closer together one to keep from freezing yet cannot due to their spines. This reflects the boundaries of human relationships, where intimacy can can also contain feelings of aversion and hostility.

I grew up in Gloucester MA, the oldest seaport of the United States. Of 4th generation Sicilian descent, my family were involved in Gloucester’s fishing industry. The ocean and its inhabitants are a major theme in my work. I received an undergraduate degree concentrating in graphic design from Salem State College and a graduate degree in art education from SMFA/Tufts University. I have exhibited her work internationally via galleries, craft guilds/societies and collaborations and my work has been publicized in various news sources, books and magazines. My work has won several awards in area galleries including best in show and most innovative/experimental sculpture. I have done public architectural and sculptural installations solo and as part of a collaborative and have curated art exhibits in Boston galleries.
