Otium domi 2024

The painting depicts a woman sitting on the sofa at home. After finishing her household chores, she sat down to read a book and drink a herbal tea, but had to stop to breastfeed her son.
The work is made with natural pigments mixed with linseed oil and safflower on canvas.
The work is the first of the new "Otium" cycle that will address the theme of free time as the ancient Romans understood it, that is, a creative free time, a moment of study, personal and spiritual enrichment, which contrasted with the workshop, that is, activities related to work and material gain. However, highlighting the difficulties and contradictions that this concept has in our time.

Multitasking work 2023

“Multitasking work” is made from a Himalayan cedar trunk, carved with different chisels and gouges, with the different carving marks left clearly visible, and then painted with a mixture of titanium white, linseed oil and safflower, combined with beeswax and carnauba.
Measure, including the support cm. H. 172 X L. 60 X D. 50. It depicts a hypothetical species of hominin, a pregnant female, with both simian and human features, while she is moving, turning to her left, balancing precariously on her head an anvil.

Antonio Mele, visual artist, was born in Naples on 12/17/1970.
After various school and work experiences he discovered, around the age of thirty, his artistic vocation.
He works mainly in the field of painting and sculpture, with forays into the world of video and illustration. He has also had a long experience as a chalcographic engraver. He has also worked in the world of LandArt with various installations.
He is a tenured teacher in Pictorial and scenographic disciplines at the Liceo Artistico Statale di Brera, Milan.
He works between Milan and Naples.
