Granini Beach 2023

Granini beach part of an ongoing series of the beach place. All skies,sand and water are removed as an exploration into the dynamics of space and the modern condition. Beach users are shaping the landscape, the margins and the beach paraphernalia reveals its location. The inactive white negative space raises questions of our deep psyche of dislocation and an absence we think of climate change or disaster or simply a past place.

Fin beach 2023

Fin beach continues its theme of absence and dynamics of space and an observation of the modern condition and beach paraphernalia. The title ‘Fin Beach’ echos the bay as a fin shape – a fin is a warning and a steering mechanism of the sea life world. This work explores people in place in an habitual form the umbrellas, the beach towels the beach toys all command the space. The absence of the landscape make us think again and steers us back to our fears of the absence of the natural environment.

Annabelle Shelton born in London holds a MA Fine Art from Birmingham City University. Shelton is based in an old Victorian school building in the new city of Milton Keynes where she makes figurative paintings about people in space (urban and beach) the place is negated leaving patterns and flows of crowds.
In the summer of 2010 Shelton was a resident artist at the Aberystwyth Art Centre, Wales, on the University campus, where she took part in the main gallery show ‘Five’. In the same year she was a selected for the John Moore’s Painting Prize. In 2011 she had a solo show in the Chapter Gallery in Cardiff.
Shelton has provided critical text and reviews of national exhibitions for a-n Artists Information Company. Shelton has previously representation and shown work with Jill George Gallery, Rebecca Hossack Gallery, Rarity Gallery Greece and Caudwell Snyder San Francisco. She was awarded Neo:artprize 2013 2nd prize for ‘Black holes at Weymouth’.
