A summer moment. In the Impossible Utopias series, each picture involves many photographs taken with long exposures capturing and intensifying the light and often the stars challenging the passage of time as we know it. Lichtenberg aims to create not merely large scale night representations of the border between UK and Europe after Brexit, but moments of respite. The moonlight scenes depicting the English Channel, invite the viewer to not only stop to see the image, but also pause to contemplate the vast calm landscape in painterly detail. Those images hope to temporarily take us away from the troubled world of news and politics. They aim to inspire us to connect with the beauty of our planet and provide meditative moments. They wish to open the viewer to the great extent of the imagination and the potent, transcendent interrelation between humankind and the planet

Andre Lichtenberg

André Lichtenberg (b.1964) is a German/Brazilian artist (based in UK) whose work explores the intersection between photography, collage and painting. In an era of overproduction and consumption of digital images, André is concerned with the creation of memory and translating that into a final physical object. Lichtenberg’s practice is informed by a highly technical and yet experimental approach to image making, a blend between art and science. His large scale artworks, such as the Within Series, take weeks to be constructed and often includes subtle references to his own childhood memories. André Lichtenberg work has been exhibited in museums and private galleries worldwide, including the Barbican Centre London in 1998, Centre Pompidou/IRCAM, Paris in 2015/16 and Fabrica, Brighton in 2018. His artworks are represented in numerous international art collections including recent acquisitions by the prestigious Joseph Cohen Family Collection in NY and the NHS Hospital trust in UK.
