Pivot series_Precarious landscape 2019

When a ceramic piece is broken down, it loses its original function. However, in the pivot series, the piece is purposely assembled once again into a complete object by creating corners.

I also use the newly expanded surface as a canvas to describe marginalized subjects. Just as ceramics become more special with corners, I want people to pay attention to overlooked and forgotten subjects throughout my work. These subjects are diverse, including nature, the inside, and so on.

The piece, The Pivot Series –Precarious Landscape, reflects the anxiety experienced as a ceramic artist and mother in a rapidly changing modern society. It was inspired by Korean folk paintings and incorporated images.

I create artworks that encapsulate my emotions and thoughts through the medium of ceramics. Having majored in ceramics during my university years, I have continued to explore various techniques and the physical properties of materials with great curiosity. As a ceramic artist living in the present era, I constantly reflect on the significance of my creations and their meaning in contemporary society. I studied ceramics at Hongik University and its graduate school in South Korea. Over the years, I have received numerous awards, including the Gold Prize at the 2010 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale Competition and the Special Prize at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale. In 2019, I was invited to the Shigaraki Artist Residency in Japan. I have held three solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. My works are part of the collections of the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, the Korea Ceramic Foundation.
