DESCRIPTION

 

CASA XAANINNA off the grid art retreat in south east Mexico is looking forward to allocate 4 half sponsored residency programs on this 2020 summer by this international open call to selection of projects, granting 50% financial support on accommodation and program expenses.

The call is open but no limited to visual artists, writers, musicians, performers, architects and scenic artists interested in relating their work to the open call thematic and on first hand approach to the Mayan area of central Quintana Roo, México. The call is open to collaborations up to 2 persons to share living space.

The dates for its realization is a 30 day period to choose between JUN 20 and AGO 20, 2020.

4 selected projects and creators will conform the group to be invited to live and work in Casa Xaán In Ná at Macario Gómez, Municipality of TULUM, MEXICO, each having access into private living/working quarters for the period length. The selection of granted entries will be made public on MAY 31, 2020.

We expect to create a small inter-discipline group of artists from different backgrounds and levels of evolution so we may benefit in learning from each other practice, experience and learn about Mexican culture, low impact living and maybe network in future collaborations.

The program is oriented towards the production of art around the theme: MODERN RUINS. The resident will be asked to observe our present civilization from the point of view of its possible remains looking from a distant future; into create art as in finished objects or manifestations out from drawn visions and conclusions.

The program include access to general facilities of the house complex as into shared workshop (28m2), small library, guest kitchen, exterior lounge areas and a pond. Bathroom facilities outside room to be shared among other house guests. Access to electricity is limited to common areas from 11am-17pm by solar system. Cellphone signal available, wifi access via local carrier. Laundry service available off the premises. Guest artists are expected to supply and organize for their own cooking same as keeping in clean condition the kitchen and personal areas. An expense equivalent of 5 – 10usd per day can be expected for food supply which can be found at short distance from the house, prepared or as in local produce.

This is a production oriented grant so do have preference for projects which can reach conclusion through the cycle and which may be performed within the limitations of this off the grid complex. Selection criteria based on content of proposal and quality of previous body of work.

Any interested artist may apply. There is an application fee of $18usd which is not refundable but into the realization of this program.

The supply of art materials, shipping costs, travel and extra expenses are responsibility from the artist side. No stipend is provided.

The program still have a fee for the artist of $336usd for 1 person and $419 for 2 persons collaborations.

Casa Xaán In Ná does not acquire rights over the art done but expect for the artist to comply with his or her intention within an appropriate atmosphere, finish the cycle with a presentation of the work evolved to be documented for later display and possible promotion. While on residency we encourage communication and exposure of development into constructive criticism among attendants. This program, house and kitchen are hosted by a young Mexican couple, architect and cook.
